COVID: Countless Opportunities Virtually & Individually to D

It is easy to lose all hope in staying healthy and fit when your trapped at home.

We are here to change that mindset!

There are countless things you can do that continue to promote a healthy lifestyle while you are out of your everyday routine.

We are here to share with you some wonderful ideas that involve staying in groups of less than two when out an about. Since the weather is brightening up, get outdoors and soak up some of that much needed Vitamin D at either of the Fitness Center track fields. Go for a jog, take on some sprints, and maybe even do some walking lunges on a local trail.

If you need to stay home, there are still opportunities to break a sweat. There are many companies currently offering their fitness programs for free, so everyone can stay active. A quick Google search and there you go! There is a program out there for everyone whether you want yoga, HIIT, dance, meditation, biking, running, etc.

If you have ever used the Wellbeats station in the fitness center aerobics room, you will be excited to hear...there is now FREE access to those same workouts on the Wellbeats app until April 30th (use the access code 57a4df63 to sign up)! There are options for all fitness levels and every age group. Gym equipment is not required with this program. However, if you want a little extra weight it can be done by grabbing some water bottles, wine bottles or even backpacks filled with books. Need floor sliders for abs? Grab some washrags for the tile or some plastic/paper plates for the carpet. Never say never, there is ALWAYS a way!

We know you can't just workout ALL day long to keep yourself busy. Here is a list of ideas that you can do while keeping your health in mind:

  • Play tag as a family in the back yard
  • Set up a scavenger hunt for the kids
  • Do yard work, if you have kids take the opportunity to teach them the life skill
  • Play games as a family (No physical board games, there are plenty or virtual ones)
  • Do some stretching, make it a competition to see who can be the most flexible by the end of the month
  • See who can go the longest without skipping their daily servings of fruits and veggies
  • Learn a new dance (salsa, hip-hop, two-step) challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone
  • Take the ingredients you have at home and see if you create a new healthy food dish all on your own (Not feeling creative, just use Pinterest for some guidance)
  • Learn how to jump rope, skip, or do a cartwheel...It's never to late to learn
  • Teach yourself or your kids about healthy eating (choosemyplate.gov is a great reliable resource)
  • Teach your dog a new trick

These ideas are meant to keep you busy without binge watching TV all day every day. Some binge watching is okay, but don't forget about your health during this crazy time!
