!-!!! Fishing
Fishing season in Germany normally runs from 1 April to 15 October but can vary from state to state. Germany has 2 types of water classifications, open and closed. On closed water, you don’t need a German license to gain access and closed waters are small privately-owned ponds or lakes that are owned and stocked by private individuals or fishing clubs. The easiest way to gain access is when you see a few anglers out fishing stop and ask them where you can apply for a permit. Permits are done directly at the pond or at a local Gasthaus that owns the fishing rights. On open water, owned by the state or community, you will need a German license as well as a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly permit. An example of open water would be the Kyll River located on the B-50 between Spangdahlem and Bitburg.
If you would like to get a German fishing license, Outdoor Recreation offers a home study CD for $65.00. You can purchase the CD for $35, when you feel confident that you are ready to take the written test (it is not easy) just schedule a time with Outdoor Recreation and when you pass the test, you’ll pay the remaining $30. You’ll then take the paperwork to your local Landratsamt or Rathaus and purchase a 1 year license for 3 Euros or a 5 year license for 15 Euros.
Stop by Outdoor Recreation for more information or to purchase your CD!!
